PURCHASE OF AN 36 EXPRESS TRAWLER 2005

Post by whwells »

HAPPY RETURN TO THE ALBIN FAMILY OF BOATS. Closed this week on SEA KNOLL formerly Sandy Lee from another fine member out of RI.
Flattery was closed concurrently with the purchase of the 36 Albin Express Trawler 2005. The good news is under Wash. State Law the value of the previous boat forms the tax basis. Well, there will be no taxes on the new purchase for either the Trawler or the new dingy.
The hard part now is getting her out west. Hope to have her hauled for shipment on the 23 or 24th and headed west before the 4th Holiday road shut down.
Otherwise it will not get on the road until after the 4th.
Many of you know of my previous ownership of Nibbles a 2006 35te Flybridge. Selling that boat was the mistake of my life in boating. Feeling better now back the Albin ET series. That will bring us to 4 of the fines boats in our NW AOG. SEA KNOLL will need a bow thruster and webasto heat as time and money allow. Otherwise it will fit our needs and much easier on the budget than Flattery a great boat but a financial drain. John Reynolds and seller Lee have both been really helpful in helping me to understand the ET series. Thank you both.

Howard,

Welcome back to Albin ownership! We never really lost you, as you stayed true to AOG with sage advice and coomentary for many. We wish you new great adventures and look forward to your new postings. How timely, just as the ew season is beginning. It's only just beginnning to feel like summer here in the NE, the water temperature is still in the low 60s. Best of luck,

Marcy K: Thank you for the good thoughts. It will be great to be boating in an Albin again if she gets out west. Had shipment all worked out but it is becoming a serious issue. The company with which I have a long history it turns out is now just doing brokerage and has no truck and trailers of his own.
The back up is now down with a blown transmission and clutch in Cleveland. It should work out but the delay is hard when the boat is still at the marina in RI and needed in Anacortes, Wa. The new boat to me is named SEA KNOLL and formerly Sandy Lee.
Moving a flybridge across the country is very difficult. Should have learned with Nibbles, but here we go again.

Update on Sea Knoll formerly Sandy Lee. The boat was moved Saturday by water from Portsmouth, RI to Clinton, CT. We will be able to move the boat from Riverside Basin Marina to the west coast over land. Plans are to load on July 18th with shipment to begin on the 19th. Expect it will take up to 10 days to reach Anacortes, Wa.
Many thanks to Lee the former owner for all his efforts in work with me to get the boat to a proper loading marina. He took the boat up for me.

Update: Sea Knoll is on the way and with heavy duty shrink wrap should arrive in good shape. It was a nightmare getting out of the east coast with a police escort required out of CT. She should make Montana today and be in Anacortes, Wa our home port on Tue. afternoon. Lots of stuff removed from the boat and it will take a week to get it back together including sanding and painting of the bottom. Water blasting for the trip made a mess of the bottom paint. Looks like it was just piled on year after year since new so no big surprise although it looked good when surveyed.
Doug thanks for the welcome back. Never really left just got away from the Albin as you know.

Howard, I'm excited to see your new boat.

We are in Jennis Bay in the North Broughtons right now. Starting the trip home in a few days. Home Sept 7.

If you're going to be cruising, let us know. Our paths might cross.

Joreyn: John sounds like another great trip for you and Carol. Sure hope I can make one happen next year. Changing boats is missing up my summer cruising.
Sea Knoll is now at Anacortes Maritime Marine Center with a lot of work to get it back together. The radar arch went back up today. The windscreen, Pod for the multiple screen at the upper station, antenna, pilot seat and whatever cushions and bemi have to go back.
The big job will be redoing the bottom paint. That will means strip, sand and repaint after proper prepartion. It is pretty clear it was not properly prepared when new for the bottom paint. More money!
Jason and i will go up on the 19th to do the final prep for the cruising. We do have a dingy and Sea Wise lift to install. Hoping that can get done on the 20th. Plan to leave the docks on Sunday the 20th for Roche, Pender Island and a short cruise up into the Gulf Islands We will be on the water until the 25th and headed home on the 26th.
Will check on your plans as we get closer.
Our friend Craig Smith of Compass Marine sent a note there is a new Albin in town. Says it looks great. First boat I ever purchased without seeing it personally.
Hope it all works out!

Howard,

just perusing the board and came across your posts. Are you at Anacortes Marina again. Nancy J has been down at Hammond all summer salmon and tuna fishing. July was great, but the winds have been blowing in August and the tuna have moved a ways off shore. Just not a nice enough ocean to run 60 miles in pursuit of Albacore.
I miss the cruising in the islands and points north and am considering bringing her back up to Anacortes next spring and leaving her there for cruising in the summer. Need to get a couple of flat ocean days to make the run. On the other hand its nice to have the boat nearby in Portland in the winter and at the coast in the summer. Gets more use, but also gets beat up fishing offshore.
