Engine room access from Bow cabin

Post by jashmen »

On my 1978 I have the engine room "door" in the aft cabin. I was thinking about adding one under the stairs in the bow cabin. Anyone ever see something like that?

The 40 has one from the galley and one from the aft cabin. What model do you have?

36. Was going to add a floor hatch but it looks easier to cut a hole it wall behind stairs.

I'm pretty sure I have seen an access panel in the location you're considering on at least one Albin 36.

My 1983 36 has an access door from the V-Berth - just under the stairs. The door is the same as my access from the aft stateroom.

I would love to see some pictures if you can.

Thanks, Jeff

Jeffrey,

If you go that route, I think our local chandlery has a door that might work for you. I'd be happy to pick it up and ship it. I installed one in Molly's aft cabin over an electric heater cutout. With the heater removed, we now have easier access to the port Racor. The door was a good find - and fairly cheap.

Reb,

What's under the inspect hatch in the sole?

It is a dead area that the shower in the front head empties into. I have put a small bilge pump to move shower water over a stringer back to where the main bilge gets it. Otherwise a few inches of water will just sit. that area would also make a perfect spot for the forward thruster if I believed in such things

We have a "shower sump" switch on the DC panel, but I see no sign of a sump, a pump, or a discharge hose. It's got me stumped. I don't even know where the tub in the aft cabin drain goes since it hasn't been used yet.

So our sump is located in front of the engine in a fiberglass box but only the aft tub/shower empties there via a 2 1/2 inch hose running from aft tub to bin. The discharge seacock it right next to our main bilge pump seacock.

Our tub empties into the hose which runs next to the shaft, and enters engine room just under rear access door, goes under engine to sump box

Thanks for the pics, that is exactly what I was thinking. I posted a reply days ago but it didn't go through I guess.

I would be very interested in the door.

My aft shower drains into a sump box nearly under the bedside table. It pumps out through the same hole as the aft sink.

I have the same bow access hatch to bilge. Sump pump is there which shoots water aft where it promptly rolls back to the bow.
