Autopilot installation

Post by Sebby »

Hi there everyone,

I am currently updating my nav gear on my Albin 36 Classic. I believe I need to intergrate a fitting into the hydraulic system. Please could somebody tell me what this fitting is and where I can purchase it from.

Very many thanks in advance.

Depends on what your steering wheel is. I just had to tie in three lines. One to the wheel reservoir and one to port/starboard lines off the wheel. Some require a check valve assembly but mine did not.

Thanks Mike,

When you say lines, do you mean copper pipes?

My new system is a RAYMARINE Evolution Autopilot c/w p70Rs Control Head. ACU-200 & Type 1 Hydraulic Pump.

I am in a strange sitaution whereby the suppliers of the equipment install everything other that the fitting it to the hydraulic system.

Is your auto pilot similar to this one?

Many thanks for your advice.

Yes the same unit. Mine were poly lines but just remove the copper lines and put in tees, 3/8" compression they should be, and run the reservoir line from the steering wheel reservoir and top off after cycling several times. My Silverton had quick connects on the poly lines so I didn't lose very much fluid but be prepared for catching it when you disconnect the lines .

Hi again Mike,

I took some shots of the current line configuration and I get the two outside lines. I am not sure about the one in the middle. Do you recognise this layout? I would be grateful for your advice again.

Thank you so much.

I had 3 lines also but not the air over oil "booster". My lines were all separate, not in a nice neat manifold.
I added mini shut off valves and used hydraulic hose to go to the pump. one valve shown in picture. I only lost about a teaspoon of oil when I did the install.
