A25 galley faucet replacement

Post by Burton »

Replacing the supply hose on the raw water Whale brand faucet found the flange corroded and broken. Has anyone used the Sea Dog faucet that is only about $14 instead of the Whale for $42? The Sea Dog is "aluminum and plastic", the Whale is "alloy and plastic.". Then, there's the Flynn (I think) solid brass faucet for $60. Since its the saltwater faucet, I wonder if its worth it to go with the brass one... anyone with any advice as to how long the aluminum ones will last in saltwater? Thanks. BTW, finally got a new teak bowsprit built with new stainless plow-type anchor, manual winch, and Samson post instead of a cleat.

Well, I decided on the cheap Sea Dog spouts— got them on sale for $12. They work just like the Whale originals and we shall see how they last. Hold your breath for the update in five years :-)

Sorry, can't help there. a) previous owners removed & blanked off the saltwater faucet, and b) previous owners replaced the fresh water faucet manual foot pump with a 12V centrifugal electric RV pump activated by a micro switch installed down low where the foot pump used to be. Actually quite handy. Only change I've made is to relocate the electric pump from under the aft end of the settee to just behind & below the water tank. Was having problems with the pump losing prime when the tank level got low. Now the pump is located where there's positive head & pushes water instead of trying to create suction. Allows a steady flow of water while being hands free. It is not a continuously pressurized on demand system like an RV or house faucet, just a pump with a momentary on/off switch.

Or this for faucet + pump. Only in my case the PO kept the OEM faucet tube & went with foot operated switch. This outfit sells for $46 on Amazon.

What not to buy.... https://www.whalepumps.com/marine/produ ... d-operated

Having to use one hand for pumping... bad. Regrets... Foot pump is way better. this stupid thing is going out this summer. I'm thinking of putting in an electric pump to make it possible to wash hair etc.
