Insurance in NY

Post by dgetswet »

Hi All,

Can anyone recommend an insurance company coving Long Island, NY? I have Boat US Geico now but they are raising me almost $700 this year. Every year they always raise about $30. This year crazy.
According to them its because of higher prices for parts and there were more claims in the area. So I told her that means I get to pay for others mistakes.

So anyone happy with there company?
Thanks

Hot topic for me too, Don. I was paying Geico $1100 per year for 80K coverage on my boat. In April, they sent me a renewal for $1800 and lowered the agreed hull value to 56K! I decided to not waste my energy arguing with the rep about the math behind the 60%+ increase for 30% less coverage, so I told her to have a lovely day and hung up.

I called NBOA Marine and they came back with a policy that was underwritten by Progressive Marine for $762 a year at 80K agreed value / 500K liability / 2K personal. My Boat US towing is now owned(?) or in partnership with Geico and as much as I wanted to stick it to Geico, I went ahead a renewed with them as Boat US has been great to work with over ther years.

We've been very satisfied with a Travelers all-risk yacht policy. In particular, partial machinery loss due to mechanical breakdown is covered; depreciation is calculated on a case by case basis based on their evaluation of overall condition of machinery, not the age of the boat; electronics are part of the hull and machinery coverage.

Wow, cheap insurance guys..

I pay $2, 100 per year, but that is semi-commercial: 24 charters included.
With only pleasure it would be $1,600 a year. $79.5k agreed value and $1M liability.
Great company, Charter Lakes, call them, even for a pleasure only policy.

I use charter lakes as well. I had to switch when I got the Viking as boat us would not insure the Viking due to age. I’ll let you know how happy I am with them as I have to make a claim already. But so far they have been super easy to deal with the claim and very helpful. The actual insurance is through Chubb but charter lakes is the broker.

Got my Albin 28TE renewal today, up $200 from last year: Now 2,311 for 12 months. $1 mill liability including un-insured boater, some charters, like 24 in a year, $79.5 K agreed value. Including the Bahamas but North of 24N and no more than 50NM offshore.
Will renew it but may check around for a better deal, although it may not be out there.
