I think a 9'6 would be too long for a good fit atop the roof. Here's a shot with my 8'6 up there

If your nav light is mounted toward the forward end of the roof, 9'6" will likely be too long.

I agree that a 9'6" dinghy is too long. I have one that long (Avon) and with its weight (heavy) and interference with the nav light, decided to get a small 6'7" Zodiac (from Defender, of course). It is light enough at 44 pounds. I haven't put it up on top yet. I'll post a photo when I do.

It would seem from the pictures that a 9'6" dinghy is not only tooo big, but would also get to be tooo heavy and hoisting (here is where my experiences come into play) the outboard (OB) motor to the back of the dinghy to attach it gets to be a limiting factor as to how often you will use your dinghy.

It also seemed that some might not realize that a boat should have an anchor light and a 270 degree night navigation light placed somewhere above the boat (there was what looked like an anchor light in one of the pictures, it could possibly serve 2 purposes).

I also noticed that the picture with the dinghy upside down on the roof was doing what looked to be a good job of blocking the radar.

Items to take into consideration when choosing a resting place for the dinghy.

I am moving this year from a sling davit to a full set of swimming platform mounted davits which will enable the mounting of the OB on the dinghy at all times. This will provide an easier use of the dinghy when we want to use it not just when we need to use it.

Good luck.
Calm seas,

Charles

That was a short term issue.
