Just finished another project:
A sensor for the FloScan system had gone rouge showing less than normal fuel flows and consequently crazy MPGs.
Did diagnostic trouble shooting with Joe at FloScan, he was helpful and easy to work and concluded the sensor between the Racor and the “Damper” was bad: Bottom of the picture, yellow cap.

I purchased a new one for $340 and finally installed it today.
It should have been a 1/2 hour job, but it took 4 hours, not unusual for my projects: :shock:

Had to hit the marine store twice due to lack of planning: Got new fuel hose, new solid band hose clamps and heat shrink. (Wrong size heat shrink, back to the store)

As usual it was challenging to work under deck, and as usual I lost something in the bilge had to retrieve it.
Pain in the rear, made sure I did this installation very, very careful so I don’t have to do it over again.

The old sensor was 20 years old, had to cut off the rubber fuel hoses rather than remove them.
Bled the system and ran the engine for 20 minutes, test ride tomorrow.

If anybody else had similar problems, let’s compare notes.

New sensor, new 3/8” fuel hoses, red clamp guard to protect the skin and to show which hose clamps are new and of the solid band, and which are not. (Continues maintenance and when everything is done, start over again. :shock: )

Temporary plastic bag zip tied over connectors until I get proper heat shrink sorted out. :roll:

Good news, test cruise today showed good numbers, back to normal and I can sleep again.. :shock:

New oil pressure gauge installed today, this one without the red area at the low end of the scale. (Too many folks were worried that the oil pressure was too low @ idle, to fix it Yanmar removed the red. Works for me)

Unfortunately an old boat is never done, always something to do, hence this thread will run forever.. :shock:

Projects on the horizon (on my boat anyways ) : Replace the 2 quarter berth port holes, already got them, and removed the fasteners on the inside to let the area dry, out in case it is wet from failed sealant: With 20 years in Florida this boat has been through a few hurricanes with monsoon type rain, like firehouse rain going sideways, every nook and cranny will get wet, and if a breach, so will the interior.
The bow thruster is due for service, but working ok so far: All the shops have a. 3 week waiting list, holding off until I can get it done in a week or less.
And lots of other projects: This boat keep me out of the bars for sure.. :mrgreen:

Next project got started this morning: Replace both portholes for the quarter berth.
Got the old ones out:

Then drilled 40 holes, 20 in the boat and 20 in the new trim rings. (For through bolting everything instead of using self tapping screws in the cabin side, and adhesive caulk on the outside like the factory did: A shortcut :shock: )

Got a dry run in place and taped off the external rings to minimize the caulking mess.

Hopefully the caulking and clean up should be good tomorrow and the new portholes will be good for another 20 years.

Are those barrel nuts? Was the cabin wall thickness too thin to flush mount them?

Regular lock nuts.
I wanted thru-bolting for better compression.
Of the 6 main cabin portholes half the self tapping screw we’re lose, probably from water intrusion in the core caused by failed caulk.
Also thru-bolting is preferred as per Beckson, the makers of the portholes.

Project complete, came out good.
Total time about 5 man hours.

Flush mount would probably show a cleaner look without any screw heads showing, but on my boat form follows function: Better to have a rock solid installation than something pretty that may start leaking again.. :shock:

Time to change batteries: The 27-1000 start battery was almost 5 years old (October 2016) and the 2 Trojan 225 amp/6 Volt batteries were exactly 4 years old.
The old batteries worked ok, but when running the bow thruster for a few seconds one could hear it lose Oomph/RPM. Not good, low voltage to an electric bow thruster can be a death sentence. :shock:
Got the same batteries for replacement, except instead of the start battery being the Interstate brand, the new one is made by Johnson Controls.
$450 for all 3 batteries at retail price including taxes.

Took numerous pictures of the old battery setup with the exact position of sensing wires for solar controller, battery charger and temperature sensors.

It paid off, everything is working great.
It took 2 guys 1:30 hours for the swap including clean up, putting away tools, etc.
All 3 batteries needed distilled water out of the box, hot summers in Florida. :roll:

New electronic flare today, got tired of replacing regular flares every few years, then the disposal headache.
This one is made by Orion and comes with a Day-Marker, a big orange flag.
$71 at the discount place, plus 2 D-cell batteries.

Now back from a 5 day/4 night cruise in the Florida Keys.

This time I measured water consumption closely as we installed an electric head earlier this year and switched to fresh water flushing.
We carried an extra jug fresh water for “just in case” :shock:

Good thing we did, the electric head used a bit more than I had guessed:
We started the cruise with a full 36 gallon main water tank, a day later with added 7 gallons from the spare jug and had it filled again at the Park on Key Biscayne. A day later again we added the next 7 gallons and the last day we drained 3 gallons from the cooler into the tank. Total added 53 gallons.
Today I tapped 1 gallon into a bucket when cleaning the boat, and the tank was empty.. :roll:
2 folks using the head and taking showers every day used 10.4 gallons a day.
Good thing we have a switch to change the head from fresh to salt water flush if needed.
Next time I fill up the main water tank I will measure how much goes in as Albin was cheating on the holding tank: Advertise a 20 gallon holding tank but installing only a 10 gallon tank, same with the fresh water tank?
Will find out with this little gadget: A garden hose water meter.

Also, we don’t drink the tank water on the boat, had a case of bottled water for drinking and for coffee. Used all 24 bottles and had to buy a few more in the Keys.

Moral of the story is we are clean, thirsty and full of poop.. :mrgreen:

Disappointing news, was only able to fill 26 gallons in the 36 gallon water tank.
Even let it sit for 20 minutes and rocked the boat sideways in case of air bubbles, no cigar it would not take a drop more.

Just like the holding tank, Albin advertised 10 gallons more than the actual tank size.

Can anybody else confirm this by calibrating your tank?

Could be the remaining 10 gallons isn’t being pumped out or the tank? I’ve never really looked at mine to see where the pick up is from. I assume it’s the top to reduce the chance of leaks?
