Next project is the sanitary system: Looking at a new and bigger holding tank, (The old one is only 10 gallons) new plumbing, new head, etc)
Found a local contractor recommended by Raritan, waiting for his estimate now.
I remember seeing pictures of a similar job a few years ago, but can’t find it after a search on the AOG, perhaps on a different forum or the Albin FB group? :shock:

If you get a bigger tank, check the elevation of the inlet hose vis-a-vis the elevation of the base of the toilet . . .

Ok, will check but there certainly is check valves in the system to prevent back flow? :shock:
Looking at this model: It has a built in macerator and can pump 10’ vertical and 100’ horizontal:

It will fit, but protrude 2” further aft.
Will have to build a template and see if we can live with less “floor space”
In the head area.
The present Jabsco head is too tiny for comfort.
Will head over to the Raritan building and see if they have a show room with all the models.

Redoing the head and holding tank will be a nice "comfortable" upgrade and having a larger holding tank is always good when spending time on the hook.

As a suggestion, consider upgrading from standard sanitation hose for all hose that carries waste as well. I highly recommend Trident 101/102 Sani Shield sanitation hose or Raritan Sani / Flex sanitation hose for maximum long term odor resistance.

In spring of 2019, I used 102 when doing a refit of all head hoses (39 ft.) and duckbills on my Vacuflush, but with one short length in Raritan Sani / Flex that had a very tight radius where the Trident Sani Shield could not make the required bend. Both carry a 10 year permeation warranty and do not require a heat gun to install. The Raritan didn't even need lubrication! I really liked working with both, but especially the Raritan. I've wrestled standard sanitation hose with refits in the past and will never go back.

Yeah good idea: I had planned to do all new hoses as well, will specify Raritan Sami/Flex, odor resistance is a good thing. :shock:

Once the old tank is out and the area cleaned out, I will do the final measurements and start searching for the replacement.

Check out Ronco. They have a catalogue that covers every size imaginable and they come through with no pre-drilled holes so that you can have them put fittings wherever you choose. Peggy Hall "the Headmistress" recommends them!

The microwave oven died in December, been looking all over for a replacement that would fit the hole without major modifications, no such luck.

Engine flush system has a stiff ball valve under deck, hard to reach and hard to turn: Finally got around to making a handle extension: A piece of PVC pipe with a cap:

A 3” extension makes a big difference in operating the valve, now I can flush the engine with a smile. 8)

In addition to Ronco, check Trionic (https://www.trioniccorp.com/). When I shopped for a tank in 2013, they had some sizes and shapes that Ronco didn't. And Ronco is known for their extensive catalog.

I discussed the project at length with Peggie Hall, who I'd gotten to know years ago on another forum when she helped me mastermind the entire re-do of the Vacuflush system on our Trojan F-32. She also owned an F-32 for many years. Here are some of my notes and hers from the 28TE project:
  • The top of the tank is the best place for ALL the fittings...with a pickup tube on the discharge fitting that goes to the bottom. It should be located over the deepest part of the tank, typically the aft end.
    You'll specify it when you order the tank. When done correctly, it allows MORE to be pumped out than is possible in a fitting at the bottom, because the opening in a fitting in the side/end of the tank has to be an inch or more above the bottom. The pickup tube, otoh, can go all the way to the bottom, cut at about 25 degree angle, which only leaves 1/2" or less.
     
    At least 5" clearance above the tank is needed to put all the fittings on the top of it. That's how much a 1.5" 90 requires.

    Preferred wall thickness is 3/8", but 1/4" is OK if tank is 15 gal. Permeation is not the concern, but bulging is.

    We used a Trionic WH-2015, and specified exactly where we wanted the fittings.

    We installed a 1" vent. Have never had an odor problem.
She specifically steered me away from Duraweld, Todd, and Moeller tanks.

With the 1” vent tube, what did you use for vent valve on deck? (or slightly below deck at the midship cleat) Factory vent, or a bigger one with a 1” barb?

We didn't use a valve for the vent, just a plain vanilla thru-hull fitting: Forespar #906026 (Defender #500497). We also needed a 1" MPT to 1" hose adapter for the top of the tank: Marine East #8922 (Defender #503050).

The vent is in the same location as the old one: immediately forward of the pump-out fitting, which is immediately forward of the mid-ship cleat. We had enlarge the opening as the old vent was only 1/2".
