Dinghy Upgrade - transom Davits

Post by Jkraft »

Hey group, I posted this over on the Facebook group and Nancy suggested I post it here too.

When I purchased my 28 it had a set of Edson Davits on the stern. My initial reaction was they they have to go. After having them and using them I decided they are great and they can stay.

Here are the details on my setup

- Dinghy - west marine 310 RIB Hypalon with double bottom

- motor- 6 hp Yamaha four stroke

- Davits - Edson ST 500 - https://edsonmarine.com/stainless-steel ... 500st-kit/

- C level Davit harness - https://www.defender.com/product3.jsp?p ... id=3201285#

- custom fully adjustable lifting bar- sketch in photos below

Nice.
What is the total weight hanging from the davits?
(Dink, motor, fuel, safety gear, etc?)

. Motor- 37 lb
Nah, the motor is probably a bit porkier than that.
I had a 3.5 Mercury 4 stroke @41lbs.
Probably 60 for the 6?

What is the davits rated for?

You are right, I stand corrected. 59 lb

The Davits are rated for 250. I guess I will
Need to not leave the fuel in the dinghy. And that will put me where I need to be

They probably engineered in a 50% safety factor, maybe..

I gave up on installing davits, using the big boat as a dink instead.
(We don’t take the dog along on overnight trips, no need for frequent rides to shore.)
