back down to the FL keys

Post by craw_daddy »

Had a great weekend with my daughter & two of her friends running the boat from Melbourne down to it's summer slip in Marathon key. The weather was perfect for our trip both days. Our first leg we ran from Melbourne to West Palm Beach & overnighted at Sailfish Marina. This spot is where most folks cross over to the Bahamas from Florida & is ussually a very active waterfront.

We left at 8AM the next morning after breakfast & refueling. The slight offshore breeze allowed me to run offshore down to Miami -where we stopped for lunch at Shuckers on the 79th street causeway (my old stompin grounds). After lunch we refueled in Key biscayne & ran outside to Key Largo. Teh seas were a little sporty, so we picked up the ICW at broad creek & ran the rest of the way to Marathon in the lee of the keys down through Florida bay. This last 3.5 hours was in ~1 ft chop with a slight breeze from behind.

Perfect weather & a perfect crew (my girl is the one in the middle). Here is a shot of the crew just prior to our arrival:

Come to the Florida rendezvous next year ! We had 27 boats, 6 more folks for the barbecue, and including one 28 from Melbourne which won the prize for coming the furthest. End of March next year at the same place. Pictures coming on the 28th. Enjoy Marathon.

I bet the crew had a blast! Sounds like fun trip. My daughters grandmother-in-law sells real estate in the Sailfish development. Been driving through it once....nice area, real nice.
Have a good summer. Still waiting for temps to get out of the 30's and 40's. Snow squalls today...teens tonight.
It's all about relaxation :)
