Not the Lehman, but I have pulled other engines out of boats in the past. What are your concerns?
Do you have a plan? What equipment are you using?

Host of issues but the biggest ones are, history and none of it mine, 5500 hrs.
I know not a lot for a diesel, but again not my diesel.
It began using antifreeze after the installation of a new heat exchanger that we installed so that needs to get pressure tested.
The biggest issue is as of May 17th the Ontario canals open and we intend to start south for 2 yrs.
I want to have 100% confidence in the engine.

We have removed the exhaust manifold and have the trans ready to come off - forklift through door - it should fit by way of measurement - have all the tools and a mechanic.... should be a piece of cake really.

Just wondered if anyone else had removed an engine from this specific boat and if so what roadblocks had been encountered.

I'll post pictures :)

Again, not YOUR specific boat, but I pulled my BW tranny at 3700 hours and it was ready to self destruct had I not pulled it then. I rebuilt it myself and had it tested for about $450 back in 07 and that included the 2 main bearings which really were ok, but since I was in there....
So, I would recommend doing a rebuild with new clutch plates and seals as a min. Good time to thouroughly check it out. If you are at all mechanical you can do this yourself.

Just have a good setup to set it on and how that will be moved around or transported.

Some people have not thought that far ahead and once the forklift sets it down...then it becomes a PIA to transfer location.

The rest should be pretty easy as long as you mark the wiring harness, etc.

Well on a scale of 1 to 10 it was about a 2 for difficulty, we had inches to spare coming out the door - now she's off for an acid spa and rebuild. Gonna be great knowing exactly where I'm at for power plant starting out.

What were the symtoms that lead you to pull the engine and inspect?
Or was it just 'cause?

Hi there:

It was the use of the antifreeze and the fact that it had 5500 hrs on it - no other symptoms - just a want to have a fresh engine prior to starting out - knowing exactly what we have.

I never realised that the Lehman engines are the Ford 2704E engine as fitted in the New Holland combine harvesters.

I say 2704E as I had a a boat with the turbo version being the 2704ET - bloody good strong units!

Looking real nice! How did the start up go? Smoothly I hope! How far South do you plan on going?

I would make sure I put 25 hours on the engine before I made any big trips. I read in the past that 25 hours puts you past the early failure point for a diesel engine..both new and rebuilds. Gets past the early wear in of bearings, rings, valves, gets past the first oil change, etc.
